26.2 MILES AND $50,000 to go!!! Joseph S. De Sena, CFP®, MBA and Robert V. Worlow of J. De Sena & Associates, a private wealth advisory practice with Ameriprise will be attempting to run the Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday, November 20, 2011.  Their team goal is to raise $50,000 for the Michael Magro foundation.  The MMF is an organization committed to bettering the lives of children with cancer and their families who are faced with the challenges of this devastating disease. Joe De Sena is an active board member of the Michael Magro Foundation and has been since 2005.  The board is completely voluntary and one hundred percent of all funds raised goes directly to the children and programs of the organization. Every year over 12,000 children and adolescents in the United States are diagnosed with cancer.  Please join us in the fight against pediatric cancer.

Joseph De Sena and wife Daria live in Fort Salonga with their puppy Brooklyn. Joe ran his first marathon, the 1983 New York City Marathon, when he was 25 years old. In 2005, Joe became a founding board member of the Michael Magro Foundation and decided to race again; this time for a cause close to his heart. As a part of Team in Training, Joe ran for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society, completing the Chicago marathon in 5 hours 41 minutes. In 2006, he ran the Dublin Marathon in 4 hours 21 minutes, making his best time ever. In 2007, he ran the Philadelphia Marathon, and on pace to break 4 hours, injured his back with 3 herniated disks at the 17 mile mark of the race. Forced to walk the last 9 miles, Joe completed the marathon in 5 hours 20 minutes, and raised $20,000 for the Foundation. Now he’s back… at age 53, Joe is determined to run his best time ever at the Philadelphia Marathon and to raise $50,000 for the Michael Magro Foundation.

                                            Robert Worlow
Robert Worlow, Paraplanner aka “PowerPlanner” with J. De Sena & Associates is extremely philanthropic and enjoys being involved in local charities on Long Island. Robert is currently studying to become a certified financial planner and is a valued member of the team. Robert is Vice Chairman for the Board of Trustees for the Congregational Church of Patchogue and has participated in the Susan B. Coleman New York City Walk-a-thon for breast cancer awareness for the past two years. In 2010, Robert “The Warlord” Worlow stepped into the boxing ring with no previous experience for Long Island’s Fight for Charity, where he raised $5,000 benefiting local charities. Robert has always been an athlete; he attended Rider University on a tennis scholarship and also played ice hockey for their club team. Robert will put both his mental and physical endurance to the test as he attempts his first marathon in November at the Philadelphia Marathon. Not only is Robert up to the challenge but is hoping he will not have to carry Joe over the finish line.
