Marathon Time 11/21/2011
Good morning. My official time was 4:36. I must be getting old. My first half was 2:02. The second half was another story. My knees gave out at 20 miles. The last 6 miles was a grind and you know I love the grind. There is nothing better than to test how much you can push yourself even though you believe you do not have anymore to give. The body and mind surprises us and kicks in. Running to the finish line with all of the spectators cheering you on is an amazing experience. All of the pain just goes away. The marathon was certainly worth the effort. I'm two marathons away from breaking four hours. I also need to do more long distance and speed work on the track. I received this note from a colleague of mine just before the marathon: "In running it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack or last. You can say I finished. There is a lot of satisfaction in that and the miracle isn't that you finished, the miracle is that you had the courage to start. " Thank you to everyone who supported Robert and I, and the Michael Magro Foundation through our training efforts the past few months! I will check back in with our final fundraising total next week. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Joe Add Comment A few more training runs to go 11/16/2011

Please send a check payable to the Michael Magro Foundation to my office. If you have contributed. Thank you. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Today, I ran my best 5 mile training run of the season. My time was 44:52. I haven't run a sub 9 Minute 5 miler in years. My last mile was 8:20. Yesterday, I visited a fellow Ameriprise Advisor who just ran a 3:15 marathon. That is an outstanding time. We spoke about the difficulty of the long race. We both agreed that completing the marathon was both physical and mental. You have to keep a positive frame of mind so that you can break through barriers. I guess running a marathon is just like life. You think? Have a great day. Rain, Sleet and Snow 10/31/2011

Good evening! Happy Autumn! What a beautiful day. Today the great weather inspired me to run 20 miles. My time was 3:18:28. This was a great training run for me. I felt physically and mentally fresh at the end of the run. You can really sort out a lot of stuff in your head when you run for 3 hours. I have a little more than a month to go for the Philadelphia Marathon. Training is right on schedule. However, fund raising is off pace. For those of you who donated I say thank you and please spread the word. For those of you who have not yet contributed please write a check payable to the Michael Magro Foundation. Finally, for friends unfamiliar with my charity run. Robert Worlow (paraplanner) and I am currently training to run the Philadelphia Marathon. Our goal is to raise $50,000. These dollars help sick kids and their families during financial and emotionally draining periods in their lives. In the past, most dollars raised where contributed to the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop Hospital. Please do what ever you can to contribute. Any dollar amount would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting too old to run the marathon. This may be my last. I would like to make this one count in a big way! With My Appreciation, Joe | Blog AuthorsRobert Worlow and Joe De Sena Archives |
